Scientist-Aroma Industry Meet Organized at CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow

CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow organized a scientist-aroma industry interaction meet under CSIR Aroma Mission at its premises on 24th September 2019. A total of 30 industry representatives from Ultra International, Kelkar Group, Ajmal Perfumers and others from various parts of the country participated in the meeting.

Dr. Abdul Samad, Director, CSIR-CIMAP, welcomed the delegates and in his address to the participants talked about CSIR Aroma Mission's progress in the first phase. He said that the meeting has been organized to discuss the future course of action in the second phase of CSIR Aroma Mission. Dr. Saudan Singh, Chief Scientist, in his address invited the industries to help and support the Aroma Mission for increasing the farmer income and reducing import of essential oils.

Dr. Alok Kalra made a detailed presentation on the progress of Aroma Mission since its inception. He told that till now 4800 hectares of additional land has been covered by aromatic crops in 1008 clusters across the country. About 300 tonnes of essential oils worth Rs. 38 crores have been generated under the Aroma Mission by the farmers which is now available to the aroma industry. He also briefed the industry personnel about the future prospects of Aroma Mission to cater to the quality and agrotechnologies.

The industry representatives present at the meet appreciated CSIR Aroma Mission for its achievements and contributions towards the aroma industry. Mr. Yogesh Dubey, President EOAI, in his address, said that CSIR should now focus on quality certifications and value-addition in essential oils. He also told that the rates for essential oils need to be fixed for increasing confidence among the farmers and helping the industry to grow.

Mr. Shakti Vinay Shukla, Director, FFDC Kannauj, talked about the development of national-level aroma market intelligence system through the involvement of various CSIR labs, industries and other stakeholders of the aroma industry. Dr. RK Srivastava presented the vote of thanks. The meeting was convened by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Principal Scientist.

Er. Manoj Semwal, Media in-charge, told that this meeting has been organized to get feedback from the industry on the CSIR Aroma Mission and also to know the future requirements of the aroma industry to chalk out strategies for the future.

Dr. Sumeet Gairola, Dr. Sanat Sujat, Dr. SP Saikia, Dr. Devendra Singh and Dr. Manasi Telang, the nodals of CSIR-IIIM, CSIR-IHBT, CSIR-NEIST, CSIR-NBRI and CSIR-URDIP also participated in the meeting.
