Agriculture, in real sense, is the life-line of Madhya Pradesh. Three-fourth of its population is dependent on agriculture or agro-related activities for its livelihood. However, agriculture has now become a task full of challenges and risks. Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh frequently faces scarcity of rains leading to failures of agricultural crops. Two drought tolerant crops, lemongrass and vetiver were introduced, which now cover an area of about 9 hectares. Three awareness programmes sponsored by Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and attended by about 250 farmers were organized for promoting the cultivation of drought-tolerant crops like lemongrass, vetiver and palmarosa.
