Under CSIR Aroma Mission, large numbers of tribal farmers have adopted mentha cultivation in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, Uttar Pradesh. To distill the essential oil from the mint crop, for the beneficiaries, a mobile distillation unit was sent from CSIR-CIMAP Lucknow to Dudhwa. The tractor-mounted mobile distillation unit is convenient to use, provide good oil recovery and also does not require any civil work before usage. These units have helped in increasing the area under cultivation of the aromatic crops in various regions of the country like Vidharbha, Bundelkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
