ne-day awareness cum training programme on "Cultivation, Processing, Value Addition and Marketing of Aromatic Crops" organized by CSIR, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu (CSIR - IIIM) under the patronage of Director, CSIR-IIIM, Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy on March 20, 2021, at Pati, Champawat, Uttarakhand. The programme was conducted in collaboration with APAAR NGO, Pithoragarh, and Farmalogist Essence & Organic LLP, New Delhi. More than 180 farmers and other stakeholders, including 82 women from different villages of Pati and Lohaghat, Champawat, participated in this programme. Quality planting material of Clarysage and Rosemary was distributed to the farmers of the area.The Chief Guest of the program, Vimi Joshi, Assistant Project Director, DRDA Champawat, informed participants about different schemes of the Government. She said that knowledge is power, and knowledge gained about aromatic plants today will help empower women and farmers of the region. She lauded the organizers' efforts in promoting aromatic crops in the region under the CSIR-Aroma Mission Phase-II.Amit Mamgain, Block Development Officer, Pati, Champawat, motivated progressive farmers and asked participants to join CSIR Aroma Mission for the region's socio-economic development. The programme was anchored by Manoj Patel of APAAR NGO, Pithoragarh. He welcomed all the guests, participants, media personnel, and all associated functionaries involved in the event.Dr. Sumeet Gairola, Nodal Scientist, CSIR-Aroma Mission (IIIM, Jammu), gave a presentation about the introduction and achievements of the CSIR Aroma Mission. Through examples of various progressive farmers attached with Aroma Mission in different parts of the country, he motivated farmers. He told the farmers that CSIR-IIIM would soon install one distillation unit at Devidhura and more units shortly as per the farmers' requirements in the region.Dr. Vikash Babu, Senior Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, apprised participants about value addition and entrepreneurship opportunities through Aroma Mission. He said that crops like Clary sage, Lavender, Lemongrass, Rosagrass, Mint, and Tulsi varieties are suitable for the region and will be promoted in the region by CSIR-IIIM. Daksh Gupta from APAAR NGO said that their association with the farmers of the Pati is 4-5 years old. He apprised the participants about the objectives and focus of the event. The industry representatives Puneet Talwar and Inder Mohan Sachdeva, Farmalogist Essence & Organic LLP, New Delhi, assured farmers that they would help farmers sell their produce at remunerative prices.The participants attending the event also took part in the discussion, and the dignitaries cleared their queries and doubts. The programme was attended by various self-help groups, Gram Pradhans, and other representatives from different villages of Pati and Lohaghat region.
