Awareness programme on “Cultivation, Processing, Value Addition and Marketing of Lavender under Aroma Mission”

CSIR - IIIM, Jammu initiates Lavender farming at Bhandarkut, Kishtwar with Indian Army. A team of scientists from IIIM visited Bhandarkut and interacted with farmers on 12th March 2021. The Indian Army (11 Rashtriya Rifles) provided logistics and support in arranging the awareness programme on “Cultivation, Processing, Value Addition and Marketing of Lavender under Aroma Mission” for the farmers of far flung areas of Kishtwar at Bhandarkut under Sadbhavana initiative. Quality planting material of Lavender was also distributed to the interested farmers.Er. Rajneesh Anand, Chief Scientist, IIIM Jammu thanked the Indian Army on behalf of Dr. D. Srinavasa Reddy Director, IIIM Jammu for their enthusiasm to support local farmers and provide them alternate source of income through intervention under Aroma Mission. Dr. Dhiraj Vyas, Head, Plant Sciences, IIIM Jammu briefed farmers about societal initiatives of the CSIR. Dr. Sumeet Gairola Nodal Scientist, Aroma Mission at IIIM Jammu gave detailed information about cultivation and processing of Lavender and other aromatic crops suitable for the region. He also informed about the progress made in Lavender cultivation in Chenab valley under the first phase of the Aroma Mission. The products made by CSIR-IIIM from Lavender and other aromatic crops were also showcased.
