A team of CSIR-CIMAP scientists visited Dhanushkodi, an abandoned town at the south-eastern tip of Rameshwaram island, where erosion of the soil caused enormous losses. A visit was arranged by an NGO to look out for green options to protect the remaining land, which the island is losing slowly. Many options were discussed with the NGO, Rameshwaram Vetiver, and environmental foundation, and some aromatic crops like Vetiver were proposed to be planted under the CSIR aroma mission, where some leading industries and district administrations may also join in this mission. This was covered by a local newspaper.
