Training cum Awareness programme on cultivation, value-addition and post-harvest processing of aromatic crops

Two-day Training cum Awareness programme on cultivation, value-addition and post-harvest processing of aromatic crops organized at Csir Cimap Research Centre, Purara, Uttarakhand on March 21-22, 2022 wherein 70 participants including 60 women attended the programme. Interactive lectures and demonstrations were conducted on CSIR-Aroma Mission activities, Rose scented Geranium, Chamomile, Rose, Mints, Rosemary, Ocimum, Lemongrass, Geranium planting material saving agrotechnology, post-harvest processing, distillation and quality of extracted essential oils from aromatic crops. Nursery preparations, Rose water preparation, and cultivation practices on aromatic crops suitable for hilly areas were also demonstrated. A plantation drive was organized as well. The participants showed active participation and a keen interest in the cultivation of Rosemary, Rose, Ocimum, Geranium towards strengthening their economy in a sustainable manner. Three farmers groups, viz. Himalayan Trust, Dhara Society and Him Organic actively participated and showed interest in intercropping aromatic crops with traditional crops. 5000 saplings of Rosemary of 'CIM-Hariyali' variety were distributed to interested farmers.
