The tribal farmers in Anamalai Tiger Reserve were trained on distillation techniques especially its do’s and don’ts by Team CSIR-CIMAP on 26th July 2019.

Lemongrass grows in wild form in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve but due to its poor yield potential and quality, coupled with primitive, non-efficient distillation units installed in the reserve, the tribal farmers were not able to achieve its full benefits. CSIR-CIMAP has introduced high-yielding varieties of Lemongrass (Krishna) and also installed 2 improved distillation units enabling farmers to enhance total oil recovery by 2.5 folds. CSIR CIMAP's interventions under CSIR Aroma Mission have substantially improved the incomes of tribal farmers of Anamalai Tiger Reserve.
